1070 / Al99.7 Aluminium TIG Wire is a high-purity aluminium filler metal containing a minimum of approximately 99.7% aluminium. Designed primarily for welding commercially pure and high-purity aluminium, 1070 provides excellent corrosion resistance, good electrical and thermal conductivity, and dependable welding characteristics.
Commonly referred to as ER1070, 1070 Aluminium TIG Wire, Al99.7 TIG Wire or 1070 TIG Rods, this filler is particularly suited to applications where maintaining a high level of aluminium purity is important.
Unlike commonly used aluminium fillers such as 4043 / AlSi5 and 5356 / AlMg5, 1070 contains very low levels of alloying elements. This makes it particularly useful when welding compatible 1xxx-series aluminium grades and other commercially pure aluminium materials.
The high aluminium content gives 1070 excellent resistance to atmospheric and chemical corrosion, while also retaining the high electrical and thermal conductivity associated with commercially pure aluminium.
Typical applications for 1070 aluminium TIG wire include electrical components, heat exchangers, chemical and food-processing equipment, tanks, pipework, sheet-metal fabrication and general fabrication involving commercially pure aluminium. Suitability should always be confirmed against the specific parent material and service requirements.
1070 TIG filler is particularly useful where corrosion resistance, conductivity and material purity are more important than achieving the higher mechanical strength associated with magnesium-alloyed fillers such as 5356 or 5556.
