  • Material Type: Designed for welding 316 stainless steel and other molybdenum-bearing stainless steels.

  • Composition:

    • About 18–20% Chromium, 11–14% Nickel, and 2–3% Molybdenum (Mo).

    • The molybdenum is what makes 316 stainless stand out — it greatly improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, especially in chloride-rich environments (like seawater).

    • Available as E316 and E316L (“L” = low carbon, better resistance to carbide precipitation and intergranular corrosion).

  • Applications:

    • Welding 316 and 316L stainless steels used in marine environments, chemical plants, pharmaceuticals, food processing, and paper/pulp industry.

    • Used in applications where resistance to chlorides, acids, and sulfur compounds is required.

    • Fabrication and repair of tanks, piping, and equipment exposed to seawater or corrosive chemicals.

  • Properties:

    • Excellent resistance to chloride-induced corrosion (much better than 308 or 309).

    • Good strength and creep resistance at high temperatures.

    • Welds are tough and ductile.

    • 316L versions minimize the risk of sensitization (grain boundary carbide precipitation) during welding.
