Material Type: Designed for welding 316 stainless steel and other molybdenum-bearing stainless steels.
Composition:
About 18–20% Chromium, 11–14% Nickel, and 2–3% Molybdenum (Mo).
The molybdenum is what makes 316 stainless stand out — it greatly improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, especially in chloride-rich environments (like seawater).
Available as E316 and E316L (“L” = low carbon, better resistance to carbide precipitation and intergranular corrosion).
Applications:
Welding 316 and 316L stainless steels used in marine environments, chemical plants, pharmaceuticals, food processing, and paper/pulp industry.
Used in applications where resistance to chlorides, acids, and sulfur compounds is required.
Fabrication and repair of tanks, piping, and equipment exposed to seawater or corrosive chemicals.
Properties:
Excellent resistance to chloride-induced corrosion (much better than 308 or 309).
Good strength and creep resistance at high temperatures.
Welds are tough and ductile.
316L versions minimize the risk of sensitization (grain boundary carbide precipitation) during welding.

During these uncertain times, we feel it is now necessary to inform our customers of our next steps during this outbreak.
Christmas is well and truly on its way, the John Lewis advert has hit our screens and the Christmas songs are blasting down the radio, with that being said we would like to inform our customers of our Christmas shutdown period.
